Our Work

  • Call for Chuck Hockema's Resignation

Chuck Hockema was recently elected to the school board in Lafayette School Corporation. Hockema is openly homophobic and transphobic, publicly stating he won't tolerate openly gay teachers. We created a petition and website calling for his resignation. Check it out here.

  • Diversity and Anti-Racism Town Hall

We hosted a Town Hall on January 26th, 2021, solely for public comment on issues of diversity at WLCSC schools. Watch or read the statements made here.

  • 2020 WLCSC School Board Election

In 2020, 4 members of the WLCSC school board were up for election, and 14 candidates ran. Read up the biggest issues of the election and our interviews with each candidate.

  • Mutual Aid Fund

We created a mutual aid fund as a way for West Lafayette community members to support West Lafayette community members. You can donate to the fund here or apply for aid here.

  • One Year Later

The One Year Later series describes everything we’ve worked on in the year since our initial letter was sent. Warning: it’s a long read!

  • Book Club

We host a Midwest-focused book club over Zoom. We meet every 3-4 weeks and typically finish books in 2-3 months. Sign up for more information here!

  • Story Addendum

After sending our letter to administration, we put together a collection of stories of discrimination and racism faced by students at WLCSC schools. You can read them here.

  • Letter

IN CARE began by a group of West Lafayette Community School Corporation alumni coming together to write a letter to administration, with a list of 7 diversity and anti-racism focused demands. You can read that letter here.
